About SG1311

When are we open?

Other than published/announced events, the gallery is open by chance or appointment.  Simply call or contact the gallery to arrange an appointment.   Typically, the gallery will be open on the weekends around noon until 4pm, but it best to call ahead to make sure.  We have a gallery staff of two, me and the dog.

Do you appraise or evaluate paintings/art objects?

Yes, on a case by case basis.  A lot of factors go into being able to properly evaluate a work of art.  We have the experience and expertise to assist in many areas of fine art appraisal.  Please contact us to schedule an appointment.

What about private events or renting the gallery?

Yes, the gallery is available to host private parties or similar events.  The gallery has also been used for photo shoots and fine arts instruction (classes) in the past.

What kinds of classes do you offer?

It varies and is largely driven by interest.  We have offered life drawing, representational drawing, still life painting, watercolor painting, oil painting and figure photography in the past.  Let us know your interest and may be able to arrange it.

Do you represent artists?

Yes.  We do represent a selected group of artists, as well as artist's estates.  Those seeking representation can make an appointment to have work reviewed for consideration.

Do you have a schedule of upcoming shows?

For a variety of reasons, we do not publish a schedule for upcoming shows.  We hope that can change in the future but for now it is a limitation that we have to work with.

Do you buy art or take it on consignment?

Yes on a case by case basis we will buy or handle art that fits with our clientele needs/wants.

  1. Hi - I am an art historian working on a book on artist TRUMAN LOWE, who studied with Prof. Vafeas back in the 1960s. I'm wondering if you by chance hold Prof. Vafeas' papers -- or if you know where I might find them, if at all. Specifically, I know Vafeas wrote letters of recommendation for Truman around 1970, which I suspect would provide valuable perspective. I might try to call you tomorrow afternoon, in case you are in the gallery. My cell is: 608.365.8804. I look forward to speaking to you! Many thanks in advance - Jo Ortel (she/her), Nystrom Professor Emerita, Art History, Beloit College
